How to delete a thread in Slack?

Deleting a thread in Slack is not possible in the way you might expect. In Slack, threads are essentially replies to a message, and while you can delete your own messages or replies, you cannot delete an entire thread if it includes messages from other users.

However, you can manage your own contributions to a thread. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Open the thread: First, navigate to the channel or direct message where the thread is located. Click on the original message to open the thread in the right-hand sidebar.

  2. Find your message: Scroll through the thread to find the specific message or reply that you want to delete. You can only delete messages that you have sent.

  3. Delete your message:

    • Hover over your message. You will see a set of icons appear on the right side.
    • Click on the three dots (More actions) icon.
    • Select "Delete message" from the dropdown menu.
    • Confirm the deletion when prompted.
  4. Repeat if necessary: If you have multiple messages in the thread that you want to delete, repeat the above steps for each message.

Remember, deleting your messages will not remove the entire thread if other users have also contributed to it.

If you need to remove inappropriate content or manage the thread more comprehensively, consider reaching out to a workspace admin for assistance.

By following these steps, you can effectively manage your own messages within a Slack thread, keeping your communication organized and relevant.
