Does Slack notify when I delete messages?

When you delete a message in Slack, the platform does not send a notification to other users in the channel or direct message thread.

This means that if you delete a message, other participants will not receive an alert or notification about the deletion.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Message visibility: While Slack doesn't notify users of deletions, they might notice the absence of a message if they had seen it before. If someone is actively viewing the conversation, they might see the message disappear.

  2. Edit history: Slack does not keep a visible edit history for deleted messages. Once a message is deleted, it is removed from the conversation and cannot be retrieved by users.

  3. Admin access: In some Slack workspaces, especially those with paid plans, administrators may have access to message logs or archives. This means that while regular users won't be notified of deletions, workspace administrators might still have ways to view deleted messages through compliance exports or third-party integrations.

In summary, while Slack does not notify users when a message is deleted, it's good practice to consider the context and potential impact of removing messages.
